ALPHABET MAGNET ENSEMBLE
For my Patternmaking class at Stevenson University, I was prompted with creating a 2-piece set for my final project. Since I have had experience in making basic shirts and pants before, I wanted to create a simple design and challenge myself with a harder fabric choice. In attempt to create a living version of alphabet magnets on a fridge, I chose to sew with PVC plastic fabric and embellish it with alphabet stickers.

SKETCHING AND PLANNING
After three rounds of sketching out ideas, I finalized my design. Since my idea was abstract to begin with, I leant into it when experiencing with different styles for my ensemble.

CREATING A MUSLIN CUT

This helped me understand where I would encounter problems in my final product, such as topstitching every seam since PVC can't be ironed.

TAKEAWAYS
Through this project, I learned the importance of understanding the properties of my fabric before deciding to work with it. Along the process of creating my final product, all of my problems I encountered were caused my the lack of elasticity of my fabric. Without considering this fabric quality, I had to make many adaptations such as hand-sewing the seams since they wouldn't bend under the machine and remaking the pants because they didn't have enough give to fit over my hips. Overall, I did enjoy the challenge and the chance to work with something different.
