SELF CONCEPT EXHIBIT
As a project for my Concept Development class, I was required to make a sculpture, garment, and exhibit to illustrate my self concept.
MY PROCESS
01
CREATING A MOOD BOARD
I was inspired by colorful swirls and group photos where one aspect stuck out as different from the rest.

02
CREATING A SCULPTURE
My concept for this sculpture and garment was to define what defines my experience as Phoebe Zaranski. Expressing myself has always been a huge part of my day-to-day life. There is something visceral about blending into the norm and being put inside a box. Whenever I strive uniqueness in self-expression, my art is always it's propeller. My art beaks me out of the box that is societal uniformity. My sculpture illustrates this in a very literal sense, the artistic swirls and paintbrush making the center box different from the other normative and repetitive ones.
03
SKETCHING AND PLANNING

After 100 sketches, I picked the look I that represented my concept best.
03
CREATING A MUSLIN CUT

I gathered either side of the skirt differently to experiment with the shape. I also had variants of the paint drips.

TAKEAWAYS
Through this project, I learned how to let go of my perfectionist tendencies. I had a lot of creating to do in little time (a sculpture, sketches, a mock-up, garment, and exhibit space). I had to learn to put equal effort into everything, making sure at least that every aspect was completed rather than perfecting one aspect and not having a full exhibit.
