PUNK PICNIC BUSTIER
For my Draping class at Stevenson University, I was prompted with creating a bustier. I have created several corsets throughout my career, both for myself and for others. I took this opportunity to create a bustier that breaks outside of the stereotypical silhouette.
MY PROCESS
01
CREATING A MOOD BOARD
My grandmother gave me some fabric that had bandana print on it, and given the coincidental timing to this project, I drew inspiration from it and decided to create my bustier with it. I felt the fabric could be used for something punk, like worn over a band tee, or something outdoorsy, like worn to a picnic. I combined these two ideas to create something a little less clear-cut.

02
SKETCHING AND PLANNING
After five rounds of sketching out ideas, decided to create a flouncy silhouette with ruched cups while adding a punk element of a lace-up, cutout front.
03
CREATING A MUSLIN CUT

Here I mapped out how to layer all of my pieces. The rusched cups, for example, had two linings beneath them, so understanding when to gather and attach the external pieces was something I had to take note of.
FINAL PRODUCT

TAKEAWAYS
Through this project, I learned the importance of taking notes of my own methodolgy. Since I was creating a bustier that was different than conventional ones, I had to do a lot of problem-solving and recreate my discovered methods for the final product.
