"RICH GIRL" SET
As a final for my Tailoring class at Stevenson University, I was required to make a buttoned jacket with lapels and a matching companion piece. Given this would create an entire outfit, I wanted to make something I would be able to wear casually any day I go out.
MY PROCESS
01
CREATING A MOOD BOARD
I wanted to create a 2000's-esque blazer and pleated skirt combo inspired by Gwen Stefani's "Rich Girl"

02
SKETCHING AND PLANNING
After two rounds of sketching, I settled for a fitted bodice and oversized pleats in the skirt.
03
CREATING A MUSLIN CUT

I gathered either side of the jacket differently to gage how much to slash and spread my basic bodice slopers.

TAKEAWAYS
Through this project, I learned the importance of using the right guts for my tailored garments. Since I had a puffier silhouette to my jacket, I had to use a weft interfacing instead of hair canvas to achieve a lighter look. While as for the matching skirt, I used a regular fusible interfacing to ensure the ironed pleats would hold.
