ZURG HALLOWEEN COSTUME
For Halloween 2022, I wanted to design a Zurg-inspired costume in light of the release of "Lightyear" earlier in the year.
MY PROCESS
01
CREATING A MOOD BOARD
I didn't want to directly recreate Zurg's look from "Toy Story 2" for Halloween. Instead, I drew inspiration from 80's sci-fi fashion to put a new perspective on his aesthetic. My main focuses were: holographic colors, sleek-looking clothes, oversized/angular armor, and overall bright colors.

02
SKETCHING AND PLANNING
I only did one round of sketching, heavily referencing my mood board, and experimenting with rendering the reflective fabric in order to capture the full aesthetic.
03
DRAFTING THE ARMOR

For my foam armor, I needed to drape patterns to prevent wasted materials. I used my mannequin to ensure Zurg's outward structure was clear from all angles.
FINAL PRODUCT

TAKEAWAYS
Through this project, I learned how to alter knit garments. Since I couldn't create a muslin cut, there were a few alterations needed before finalizing the product. Understanding the extra give that my garment had allowed me to make the whole costume more form-fitting.
